Racheal & Matt
A Vancouver Wedding Rooted in History, Heart, and a Little Bit of a Grade 7 Throwback
Some love stories feel like they were always meant to be — Racheal and Matt’s is one of them. These two have been together since grade 7 (yes, really!) and photographing their wedding last October in Vancouver felt like stepping into a full-circle moment years in the making.
The day began at their family homes, which set such a meaningful tone. Surrounded by childhood photos, familiar walls, and people who’ve known them their whole lives, it was clear how deep the roots of this day ran. One moment from getting ready that still stands out to me is Racheal getting ready in her sister’s room. Her sister was worried the space wasn’t “clean enough” for photos — but looking back, it was perfectly imperfect. There were photos on the wall, bridesmaid dresses draped over the bed, and makeup tools scattered across the room — signs of real life, real documentation, and real moments. It was a reminder that your wedding day doesn’t need to look like a styled shoot. The beauty is in the honesty of it all — and that’s what makes the photos truly meaningful. Racheal’s sweet dog Honey was there too and even made a special appearance for photos, which may have been a fav part of the day.
Their ceremony took place in a stunning Catholic church right next to the school where their story first began. They chose to see each other for the first time down the aisle, and the moment was so incredibly beautiful. The ceremony was rich with symbolism and tradition — the kind that makes you slow down and take it all in. It was clear how much this sacred space, and what it represented, meant to them and their families.
After the ceremony, we stepped outside for a quick throwback. Racheal and Matt recreated a photo from grade 7, standing side by side just like they did all those years ago. I shared a reel of that moment, and it reached 11 million views — proof that the world is just as obsessed with their story as we all are.
From there, we joined the bridal party for photos and then made our way to the beach. Racheal and Matt exchanged private vows there, just the two of them, with the ocean stretching out behind them and the most perfect weather to match. It was calm, personal, and so full of heart — one of those quiet pauses in the day that you know will stick with them + you forever.
The celebration continued at the reception, where we captured some fun cocktail-hour shots before everyone settled in for dinner. But you guys, the real fun? The dance floor. It was absolutely electric — full of energy, joy, and the kind of carefree dancing that only happens when the people in the room really love each other. As if that wasn’t enough, guests were treated to ramen for a late-night snack — a warm, cozy end to an unforgettable day.
Racheal and Matt, your wedding was a reflection of everything you are: rooted, joyful, and deeply connected. It was an honour to capture your story — from grade 7 to forever.
